The most important part of this announcement was the introduction of a major user interface change, codenamed Sun Valley. As we know, a significant part of the UX changes are borrowed from the Windows 10X skin, and Windows 10X is not released.
Now, as expected, the Windows 11 data leak begins
What’s new in Windows 11: – Windows 11 gets a completely new look. Microsoft clearly needs a good reason to retract its previous claims and continue to reject Windows 10 by introducing a new operating system number. And the completely new design is perfect for this. The Redmond giant has been preparing for a long time the redesign of the update codenamed Sun Valley (“Sun Valley”) – apparently Windows 11 was under this name. The Sun Valley project flashed online for a long time – Microsoft regularly revealed details of the new user interface style, insiders shared previously unknown information, and popular designers drew realistic concepts based on all this.
– Startup and system elements float above the bottom bar
Start is the business card and face of all the latest versions of Windows. Not surprisingly, in Windows 11, developers change it again, but not so much functionally as visually – the Start window floats above the bottom bar. We have to admit that this small change makes the system look much fresher. Based on information obtained from the Internet, Microsoft does not radically change the “inside” of the menu – the innovations affect only the design of the window itself. The control panel also floats, and its structure is completely identical to the “Start” program.
– Straight corners disappear, replaced with fillets
The action center is combined with control buttons – something similar has been used for a long time in some other operating systems. Almost every mention of the new menu indicates that it will be island-like – controls in a separate panel, notifications in another, and individual items (like the player) in another, separate panel. In fact, insiders and concept designers differ on this issue – some trust that Microsoft will not change its traditions and stay in the right corner, while others are convinced that in 2021 Microsoft will follow the filleting fashion. The latter fits more into the “all new Windows” definition – floating menus aren’t enough to make the new look truly new. The cuts are expected to affect practically everything in the system, from context menus and system panels to all application windows.
– There is a transparent, blurred background everywhere
True, in this matter too, the opinions of concept designers are divided – some draw fillets on all possible surface elements, others connect them with right angles. There are disagreements online about the island style of the window display, the design of the corners and the levitation effect of the menu, but almost everyone agrees on the transparency of the windows. Most of the leaks and design renders show transparency and blur in every window, whether it’s at least the Start menu or Explorer. Moreover, these effects are even included in the configuration of the canceled Windows 10X operating system, which was developed by Microsoft in parallel with the Sun Valley project for devices with two screens and weak devices.
